Terry Melcher was the prototypical LA music scenester. The son of Doris Day, he got started writing surf songs with future Beach Boy Bruce Johnston in the Rip Chords, and, as staff producer for Columbia Records, went on to produce the Byrds, Paul Revere & the Raiders and the Rising Sons. With a resumι like that, you’d think this, his 1974 solo album for Reprise, would have been reissued long ago, especially because the guest list here is just jaw-dropping: Ry Cooder, Chris Hillman, Clarence White, Michael Clarke, Hal Blaine and others, even vocals from Spanky McFarlane and mom herself! But for some reason this one has been overlooked, and now, with Terry’s recent passing, the time has come for this newly annotated and remastered release—a 'Collectors’ Choice Music' exclusive. Includes the Melcher originals 'Beverly Hills; The Old Hand Jive', and (with Bruce Johnston) 'Dr. Horowitz', plus a medley with Terry’s tune 'Halls of Justice' leading into Dylan’s 'Positively 4th Street' and 'Like a Rolling Stone; 4th Time Around; These Days; These Bars Have Made a Prisoner Out of Me; Arkansas'; the Roger McGuinn/Jacques Levy song 'Just a Season; Stagger Lee', and 'Roll in My Sweet Baby’s Arms'.
