When this album came out on Elektra in 1964, little did anybody know that what they were hearing was the first (and possibly only) folk supergroup! Formed by Peter Siegel and Stefan Grossman, the EDJB’s lineup included a certain John Benson (a.k.a. John Sebastian) 'and' a certain Maria D’Amato (a.k.a. Maria Muldaur), as well as Steve Katz of Blues Project and Josh Rifkin of Scott Joplin/ragtime fame. The result of all this talent was a high-spirited mixture of bluegrass and blues—jokingly dubbed “jug-grass”—heard on songs like 'Take Your Fingers Off It; Come On In; Mandolin King Rag; Overseas Stomp; Evolution Mama; The Even Dozens; I Don’t Love Nobody; Rag Mama; France Blues; On the Road Again; Original Colossal Drag Rag; All Worn Out; Lonely One in This Town', and 'Sadie Green'. Right after its release, all these musicians were about to go their separate and famous ways, but for a fascinating early chapter in their development—and a rollicking good time—you couldn’t do much better than this record. An extraordinary one-off, a 'Collectors’ Choice Music' exclusive
