GIRL formed in 1979 in the midst of the second wave of punk rock and the beginningof the crossover HM scene (the so called NWOBHM). A possible trait d’union betweenthe 1970s glam scene and its hairdresser focused LA based mid 1980s revival, GIRLreleased their first album Sheer Greed in January 1980 with the clear intention of beingthe British New York Dolls. Besides the obvious use of heavy make up and femaleclothes to gain the attention of the press, GIRL put out an excellent collection of sheerheavy boogie rock’n’roll tunes that probably would have had more success than they did, had the timing been right.Includes their cover version of Kiss’ “Do You Love Me” - who GIRL opened for at some of Stanley and Simmons’combo’s 1980 UK tour dates - and features singer Phil Lewis who would later emigrate and become the LA Gunsfrontman in 1987. Contains a bonus one-sided 7” of “My Number” as it was originally released prior to the album.Track listing - Side A: 1.Hollywood Tease 2. The Things You Say 3. Lovely Lorraine 4. Strawberries 5.
