The Love Affair was a young (very young) pop band of the late '60's who hit the No. 1 spot in the UK charts with a cover of Robert Knight's, "Everlasting Love" in 1968. Originally called The Soul Survivors, the band's members at one time included future Mott the Hoople keyboardist Morgan Fisher who left the band because he was doing his A levels (though he returned in the summer of '68 just before Love Affair's first album was completed). The second single, "Rainbow Valley" (another Robert Knight cover) reached No. 5. Phillip Goodhand-Tait was brought in to write songs and came up with their next four singles, "A Day Without Love", "One Road", "Bringing on Back the Good Times" and "Baby I Know", all of which kept Love Affair in the charts until the summer of '69. In December, Steve Ellis announced his departure at a gig in Newcastle. The band carried on with a new singer, but by 1971, the band had disintegrated.
