Alberta Hunter and Lucille Hegamin could both lay claim to having been the next female blues singer to record after Memie Smith’s groundbreaking ‘That Thing Called Love’ in around 1920. Victoria Spivey might seem like a relative newcomer with her first waxing in 1926. It was remarkable that these three were still performing like this in 1961.
