The idea of putting a Charleston beat to "Misty" was fairly common property by the time Groove cut his version in August 1964. Still, he was the first to get the arrangement on record. "Misty" was the biggest single in Prestige history, going as high as Number 44 on the Billboard pop chart in 1966. For the artist, it was the breakthrough he had been seeking ever since his discovery on Pacific Jazz Records earlier in the decade.Groove Holmes was one of the hardest-driving and most inventive organists of any time.
