In 1978, the middle of the punk era, The Stiffs were formed and by 1980 they had a deal with EMI. The catch was that they had to have a hit single and unfortunately that was not to be the case.They persisted and it is from their eighties period that this CD is drawn. It includes a never-before-released BBC session with BBC producer Dale Griffin (Buffin from Mott The Hoople) also playing drums. Dale has also provided fascinating sleeve notes which will shed new light on The Stiffs story. The material on this album is varied, from upbeat post-punk to air-brushed stadium rock. Their music was described in 1981 as a "marriage of instant melody and hooks with the power and forcefulness of punk'. A must for all Mott The Hoople completists but also lovers of power pop/pomp rock!
