Released in 1968, Outward Bown was the debut album by The Alan Bown, one of the most distinctive groups to emerge from the British progressive and psychedelic scene of the late 1960s. Building on their roots in rhythm & blues, the band developed a sophisticated sound that combined brass-driven arrangements, psychedelic experimentation and progressive songwriting, setting them apart from many of their contemporaries.

Led by keyboardist and trumpeter Alan Bown, the group featured rich vocal harmonies, inventive instrumentation and an adventurous musical approach that bridged mod, jazz, psychedelia and early progressive rock. Although overlooked at the time of its original release, Outward Bown has since become a cult classic, admired for its originality and its important place in the evolution of British progressive music.
