"If a smile had a sound, it would be the sound of Lee Dorsey's voice". That comment came
from legendary New Orleans producer and songwriter Allen Toussaint, who enjoyed a long and
fruitful professional relationship with Lee, hit performer of such timeless smashes as ''Ya Ya'
Twist', 'Holy Cow', 'Working In The Coal Mine', 'Ride Your Pony' and 'Get Out Of My Life,
Woman' in the 1960s.
A major influence on others outside the R&B sphere (The Clash took him on tour in America as
their support act in 1980), this collection brings together the cream of Dorsey's output,
including his original version of songs like 'Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley' and 'Yes We Can',
that became respective blockbusters for Robert Palmer and The Pointer Sisters.
'The Best of Lee Dorsey' contains a detailed career overview essay about the man billed as
'Mr. T.N.T.' in acknowledgement of his dynamic stage act.
