Bill Grauer of Riverside Records was a long time fan of John Lee Hooker and initially set out to record him on songs associated with Ledbelly. However he was not familiar with the material and so as always he produced a John Lee Hooker record, this time with just Guitar, Vocal and no studio trickery.
