“They played a HUGE role in creating the future of music.” — Prince
To celebrate six decades of George Clinton thrilling and inspiring audiences worldwide, Charly have relaunched the Funkadelic catalogue in newly mastered, deluxe-packaged editions, including limited colour vinyl LP pressings.
Funkadelic’s twelfth studio album, The Electric Spanking Of War Babies, arrived in 1981 and was hailed by Robert Christgau as “the solidest, weirdest chunk of P-Funk since One Nation Under a Groove.” The record introduced several new faces to the Funkadelic orbit—most notably Sly Stone—and seemed destined for controversy from day one, thanks to its originally censored sleeve and an initial plan that was cut back to a double LP.
In many ways, the tighter single-album format only strengthens its impact—and it still delivered two hit singles: the title track and “Shockwaves.”
