A name that was as synonymous with the 1 s t wave of punk as Rotten or Strummer, Perry could have easily cashed in on the punk movement. But he didn't. Perry formed ALTERNATIVE TV several months before quitting his punk zine "Sniffin Glue", in 1977. Almost immediately, Sounds Magazine had the band listed as an up and coming group. ALTERNATIVE TV was, it turned out, less a punk group than a concept. "Punk rock doesn't end with getting the Buzzcocks, Gen X or the Sex Pistols on television," he said.
