WELCOME TO LPCDREISSUES
Recorded live at the Salle Pleyel in Paris during the European "Jazz Expo '67" tour, the line-up for the concert ranged from a basic quartet featuring Monk on piano, Charlie Rouse on tenor sax, Larry Gales on bass and Ben Riley on drums, to a nonet featuring several added horn players. The fact that Monk rarely played with so large a group makes this concert a rare historical event and this album an important historical document in understanding a rare side of Monk's sound. All of the music heard on this double LP is original Monk material (some of which was written in the early forties) Includes: "We See", "Epistrophy", "Oska-T", "Evidence", "Blue Monk", "Epistrophy" and the classic Monk ballad "Ruby My Dear".
