The Snakereleased in 1972 on Janus catches Harvey Mandel at his best. Backed by some Canned Heat members like Larry Taylor, Adolfo de la Parra, Antonio de la Barreda, and the great fiddler Don "Sugarcane" Harris, who returned the visit Harvey Mandel payed him on some of his albums; the recordings on The Snakeare almost instrumental, with Harvey playing all the solo parts, making duets with himself by overdubbing his guitar. Although Harvey has always stood apart from the "big" music business he has always released albums of excellent quality, creating a style as unique as inimitable.
