The String-A-Longs had two identities. Late in 1960 at Norman Pettys Clovis studio they slipped on the instrumental persona of the String-A-Longs like a second coat, with Petty cutting and shaping their material as would a master tailor. However they had started out at the beginning of 1959 as the Leen Teens, a sharp teen-rock band performing vocals in a style much influenced by Buddy Holly and informed by rockabilly generally.
That line-up recorded many excellent vocal tracks which were released at various times under different names: Micky Boyd & The Plain Viewers, Bryan Keith and Brian Keith (aliases for Keith McCormack), the Leen Teens or as B-sides to the String-A-Longs first instrumental releases. This CD collects both the vocal and instrumental elements of the bands work to present a fuller, more rounded, picture of the String-A-Longs as they really were.
As a special bonus we have also included some later recordings by Keith McCormack, the bands gifted vocalist and songwriter.
Five of the 26 tracks are previously unreleased.
Informative sleeve notes by Dave Burke & Alan Taylor of Pipeline Magazine.
