Often described as a more radio-friendly version of Lynyrd Skynyrd or the Allman Brothers, the Atlanta Rhythm Section was one of many Southern Rock bands to hit the upper reaches of the charts during the late '70s. These two albums were originally released in 1974 and 1976 on the Polydor record label
Review of 'A Rock And Roll Alternative' from AMG: "'A Rock And Roll Alternative' was Atlanta Rhythm Section's breakthrough record. After five albums and four years of trying, they hadn't gotten higher than #74 in the LP lists, but this time their mixture of country and rock finally found its audience, largely due to the single 'So Into You', so that the album soared to #11 and went gold. It was only fair: the ARS had perfected a sound that was lighter and more accessible than The Allmans/Lynyrd Skynyrd school of Southern rock, but no less accomplished, and 'A Rock And Roll Alternative' was the embodiment of it."
In the wake of their split, Atlanta Rhythm Section has reunited sporadically for tours, and issued their first all-new studio album in more than a decade in 1999, 'Eufala'. Additionally, some of country rock's biggest names have gone on to record ARS covers including Travis Tritt, Wynonna Judd and Charlie Daniels
