Originally released on Curtis Mayfield’s own Curtom label in 1968 (CRS-8001), this album is considered by many to be the peak of their career. Mayfield delivers a couple of forceful statements of African-American pride with the title track and “They Don’t Know”, and also walks gingerly onto the flower-power plank with “Love’s Happening”. Mostly, however, romance remains the hot topic, and this is a characteristically strong Impressions effort, full to the brim with first-class Mayfield compositions.
