After meeting in 1940 when Gillespie was a steady in Cab Calloway's big band, Bird and Diz reunite once again, here at the top of their game. These 1945 recordings from the Town Hall, NYC rise up from our inexplicable loss of memory and offer us a duo in perfect synchrony, with pleasantly long and dilated versions of some of their greatest masterpieces, a very uncommon thing for the then forcedly short length of 78rpm records. In these live tunes, Parker and Gillespie, backed by the great Max Roach on drums, fly high, offering the listener all the power of their intuitive geniuses. This version features ten bonus tracks, including live-in-studio and radio sessions from some of the rarest acetate of the period.
