This Hifly Sound Anstalt edition brings together two very different early chapters in the story of Trapeze. The self-titled debut shows the original five-piece line-up exploring a colourful mixture of late-1960s psychedelia, melodic rock and early progressive ideas, with horns, keyboards and layered vocals giving the material a broad, slightly orchestral character.

By the time of You Are The Music... We're Just The Band, Trapeze had become the leaner trio of Glenn Hughes, Mel Galley and Dave Holland, and the sound had changed dramatically. The second album included here is tougher, funkier and more direct, driven by Hughes' soulful voice and bass, Galley's guitar work and Holland's powerful drumming. Heard together, these two records trace the band's transition from adventurous psychedelic rock into the muscular hard rock and funk-inflected style that made them so influential.
