“Aguaturbia” (1970) is a cornerstone record for understanding how Chilean rock took shape.

Ferocious and freewheeling, the album pairs heavy grooves and grit-laced distortion with Denise’s striking, phased vocals—often evoking the spirit of Jefferson Airplane. Alongside original material, it delivers blistering reinterpretations of songs associated with Tommy James & The Shondells, The Beatles, and Jefferson Airplane, pushing familiar classics into darker, more rhythmic territory.

After spending years out of stock, we’re excited to make this remarkable LP available once again.

First released in 1970, Aguaturbia’s debut captures one of South America’s most vital psychedelic bands of the late ’60s and early ’70s—an influence that proved revolutionary in Chile and far beyond. Three of its tracks were performed live in 1969, and the album quickly became a symbol of transgression: its uninhibited sound and notorious cover art—nudity included—stood in direct opposition to the conservative social codes of the time, challenging prevailing ideas of morality and “good taste.”

Musically, the record is powered by the virtuosity of guitarist Carlos Corales, whose solos could leave audiences stunned into silence before erupting into euphoria. The band’s professionalism was no accident: Corales (guitar) and Willy Cavada (drums) were seasoned working musicians with prior careers in rock and roll groups.

Highlights abound—like Cavada’s jaw-dropping one-take drum solo on “Ah Ah Ah Ay,” and the sensual, lysergic pulse of “Erotica,” where Denise’s vocals intertwine with Corales’s electric guitar. Their charged versions of “Somebody to Love” and “Crimson and Clover” are equally gripping, transforming well-known songs into full-throttle psychedelic eruptions.

“Aguaturbia” isn’t just a great album—it’s a key chapter in the story of Chilean rock, and we’re delighted to bring it back into circulation at last.
