Mr. McNabb entered the music scene as a member of a cabaret band called “Young World”, and the name is a strong indication of how old he was at that time. Another member of “Young World”, Chris Sharrock, (who later joined Ian in Icicle Works), was only 9. I have a shocking vision of Ian as Little Jimmy Osmond…God, no!Ian went on to join a band called “City Lights”, while Chris joined a mod band called “The Cherry Boys”. In 1980, Ian and Chris formed their own group, having found a 3rd member, Chris Layhe, and they called themselves “The Icicle Works”. After 5 albums (including a compilation) the two Chris’ departed; Sharrock to drum for The Lightning Seeds while Layhe retired from music. Ian recruited Zak Starkey, Dave Green and Roy Corkhill before forming the “second generation Icicle Works” with Corkhill and adding Dave Baldwin, Mark Revell and Paul Burgess. The band moved labels from Beggars Banquet to Epic in 1990 and went on to record a further album which was to be their last.Ian moved on to a solo career and since 1993 has released 6 albums. "Head Like a Rock" Ian's second solo album released in 1994 is rather distinctive as it features two members of Crazy Horse, Neil Young's band. Ian was also a member of Mike Scott's band for the tour that supported the album "Still Burning" on which Ian also played.
