Sly Stone's best music, exquisite by any standard, helped create new musical parameters and would become a benchmark by which to measure all music that followed it. However, even the most loyal fan may be unaware that he recorded two "comeback" albums for Warner Bros., 1979's Back On The Right Track and 1983's Ain't But The One Way. Both albums have been out of print in the U.S. (and most everywhere else) for quite awhile. We aim to correct this egregious error by reissuing these unfairly overlooked albums on our new collection Who In The Funk Do You Think You Are: The Warner Bros. Recordings.Listening to Back On The Right Track today, with the benefit of hindsight and rose-colored, star-shaped spectacles, the album sounds like Sly was making a valiant attempt to get his career -- dare we say -- "back on the right track." One example is that he was joined by several original members of The Family Stone, including brother Freddie Stone and their sister Cynthia. The result is an album as prophetically hopeful as Sly and his reunited family could muster at the time.In 1983, Sly made a second attempt at a "comeback" album when Warner Bros. released what would become the final Sly And The Family Stone album, Ain't But The One Way. While credited to Sly And The Family Stone, this album was basically a solo effort for Sly, filled out with appearances by a slew of guest musicians. All of the album tracks on Who In The Funk Do You Think You Are: The Warner Bros Recordings have been remastered from the original tape sources. The previously unreleased tracks have been taken from the best available surviving copies and, while they may not be as sonically perfect as the album masters, provide valuable insight into some of the other musical ideas Sly was then exploring. And the booklet that will accompany all of this funky delight will contain personal recollections and memories of Sly's brother, guitarist and Sly And The Family Stone co-founder, Freddie Stone, and his former studio bass player and guitarist Alexander Dore.Who In The Funk Do You Think You Are: The Warner Bros Recordings is available as an individually-numbered limited edition of 5,000 copies.
