While the media was declaring 'Punk Is Dead' from every street corner, Discharge came bursting on to the scene with a violence and anger that made all that had come before look like a halfhearted warm up act. This new breed of angry metallic sounding punk sent shockwaves around the world and their driving guitar and drum assault would become the formula from which everyone from Exploited, Agnostic Front and Suicidal Tendencies to Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax would draw inspiration. Originally released in 1981, the 10 track 12" Why (featuring Dave "Bambi" Ellesmere on drums) shot to the top of the Indie Charts and stayed there for 5 months, thanks in part to their participation in the now legendary Apocalypse Punk Tour of May '81.
