Originally released in 1989 on the Geffen label and features a track ( 'Mary') co-written by actor Johnny Depp. a—? "Muddy Waters meets the Sex Pistols" suggests Bobby Durango, the band's main songwriter, noting that listed among the album's dedications are the names of early rock 'n' roll great Eddie Cochran and punk's Sid Vicious. a—? The album was recorded at the legendary Ardent Studios in Memphis and produced by Joe Hardy, a veteran studio engineer who's been responsible for ZZ Top's hit sound. a—? A band shrouded in scandal and mystery, the Rock City Angels should have been one of the biggest names in the late eighties, but bad timing hid them from the public. The band slipped away unnoticed, while others in the same genre made millions. Bobby Durango (vocals) and Andy Panik (bass) formed the group in Florida, with Johnny Depp also an early fixture. a—? They were one of South Florida's hottest live bands in the mid 80's. Starting out as The Abusers, they evolved into the Rock City Angels as their hair got longer, "Bobby Bondage" became "Bobby St. Valentine" and the music was an exciting mixture of punk-inspired glam rock. a—? Although the band developed a major local following, they were about to call it quits when Hollywood-based indie label New Renaissance Records offered them a recording contract. The band relocated to Los Angeles, Bobby St. Valentine changed his name to Bobby Durango, and they took the town by storm. It wasn't long before Geffen Records took notice and bought their contract from New Renaissance Records. Geffen then offered The Rock City Angels a $6.2 million contract, and sent the band to Tennessee where they spent the next two years recording their debut album 'Young Man's Blues'. During this time, the band's image was radically changed.
