Second Album is the second LP Roy Buchanan recorded for Polydor and one of the finest showcases of his extraordinary Telecaster style. Born in Arkansas, Buchanan became celebrated as one of the most expressive electric guitarists of his generation, admired for his soulful touch, controlled harmonics and ability to make the guitar sing with remarkable emotional force.
Often called “the best unknown guitarist in the world,” Buchanan influenced and impressed many major players, including Jeff Beck, Robbie Robertson and Billy Gibbons. His reputation was so strong that he was even discussed as a possible replacement for Brian Jones in The Rolling Stones, alongside fellow Polydor artist Rory Gallagher.
Released in 1973, Second Album became Buchanan’s best-selling studio release and went gold. With only a few vocal tracks, the album gives plenty of space to his fluid blues phrasing, biting tone and dramatic fretwork, from the fiery Filthy Teddy to the deep blues of Five String Blues and the heartfelt Tribute To Elmore James.
