Live At Montreux 1968 captures Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger & The Trinity on stage at the Montreux Jazz Festival on 14 June 1968, during the period when their mixture of jazz, blues, soul, rock and psychedelia was at its most electric.

The group’s chemistry is immediately clear: Driscoll’s commanding voice cuts through with raw intensity, while Auger’s organ work drives the music with a mix of groove, attack and jazz-rooted imagination. Supported by bass and drums, the performance moves freely between song-based material, extended instrumental passages and hard-swinging improvisation.

The set includes powerful versions of Season Of The Witch, Save Me, A Day In The Life and Bumpin’ On Sunset, alongside bluesier and jazzier moments such as Red Beans And Rice, If You Live and Goodbye Jungle Telegraph. Heard as a whole, the concert shows the band working well beyond simple pop-psych territory, stretching their repertoire into a heavier, looser and more spontaneous live form.

Issued by Repertoire Records as catalogue number V381, this 2LP vinyl edition presents the previously unreleased Montreux performance as a vivid document of one of the most distinctive British jazz-rock/psych-soul line-ups of the late 1960s.
