Comalies is the breakthrough third studio album by Italian gothic metal band Lacuna Coil, originally released by Century Media in 2002. Combining heavy guitars, atmospheric keyboards and dark melodic textures with the contrasting voices of Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro, the album established the band internationally and remains one of the defining records of their career.
The distinctive vocal interplay between Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro lies at the centre of the album's sound. Scabbia's powerful melodic vocals contrast with Ferro's deeper and more aggressive delivery, while the guitars, keyboards and rhythm section move between gothic atmosphere, alternative metal and melodic heavy rock.
The album opens with Swamped, one of Lacuna Coil's best-known songs, followed by the equally memorable Heaven's A Lie. Other highlights include the driving Daylight Dancer, the atmospheric instrumental Aeon, Tight Rope, Entwined and the dramatic title track.
Recorded with the classic line-up of Cristina Scabbia, Andrea Ferro, Marco Coti Zelati, Marco Biazzi, Cristiano Migliore and Cristiano Mozzati, Comalies combines powerful metal riffing with melodic songwriting, electronic textures and a strong sense of atmosphere.
