Victory is the fourth studio album by Swedish death metal legends Unleashed, originally released by Century Media in 1995. One of the important early records of the Swedish death metal movement, it combines crushing old-school death metal with the Viking and Norse themes that became increasingly central to the band's identity.
The classic line-up features Johnny Hedlund on bass and vocals, Fredrik Lindgren and Tomas Olsson on guitars and Anders Schultz on drums. Recorded at EMI Studios in Stockholm during November and December 1994, the album presents a tighter and more direct version of the sound developed on the band's first three records.
The opening Victims Of War immediately establishes the album's aggressive character, followed by Legal Rapes, Hail The New Age and The Defender. The powerful In The Name Of God closes the first side with a combination of memorable riffing and Johnny Hedlund's unmistakable vocal attack.
The second side opens with the epic Precious Land, followed by the short and furious Berserk. Scream Forth Aggression and Against The World deliver classic Swedish death metal before the compact Revenge brings the album to a close.
Victory represents a significant stage in Unleashed's development, retaining the raw power of early Swedish death metal while increasingly embracing the historical, mythological and Viking themes that would become one of the band's defining characteristics.
