Samson – Survivors is the 1979 debut album from the British heavy rock band led by guitarist Paul Samson. Mixing hard rock, blues-based riffs and the heavier sound that was beginning to emerge in Britain at the end of the 1970s, the album captures Samson just before the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal moved into full force.
The original album was recorded before Bruce Dickinson joined the group, with Paul Samson handling the lead vocals as well as guitar. Thunderstick provides the distinctive drumming, with Chris Aylmer on bass and additional contributions from John McCoy and keyboardist Colin Towns.
Opening track “It's Not As Easy As It Seems” establishes the band's muscular guitar sound, while the extended “Big Brother” and “Tomorrow Or Yesterday” reveal a more expansive side. The instrumental “Koz”, the heavy “Six Foot Under” and closing “Wrong Side Of Time” complete an album that bridges late-'70s hard rock and the emerging NWOBHM sound.
This Culture Factory USA reissue is pressed on milky clear translucent vinyl and is limited to 2,000 copies. It has been mastered from the original recording and comes with an OBI strip, printed inner sleeve and original-style record labels.
