Sigmund Freud – Risveglio brings to life music created by a fascinating Italian progressive rock group whose roots stretch back to the early 1970s. Formed in the Castelli Romani area near Rome in 1972, Sigmund Freud developed an original sound inspired by the flourishing Italian progressive scene of the period.
The band performed extensively around Rome and throughout Italy during the 1970s, combining elaborate progressive-rock structures with melodic songwriting, atmospheric keyboards, guitars, flute and saxophone. Although they recorded material during that era, a full album never appeared at the time.
Risveglio finally gives those compositions their proper album form. The music was recreated with the intention of preserving the character and atmosphere of the band's original 1970s arrangements, blending symphonic keyboards, acoustic and electric guitars, expressive Italian-language vocals and extended instrumental passages.
Long-form pieces such as “Fiori di Polvere Bianca”, “Giochi d’Ombre” and “La Quiete dopo la Tempesta” display the group’s distinctly Italian balance of progressive complexity and melodic songwriting. The themes range from social issues and personal struggle to dreamlike and metaphysical imagery.
This Black Widow Records BWR 286 vinyl edition is presented in a foldout / gatefold sleeve and includes a booklet.
