"This historic album, originally released on ESP-Disk' in 1965 (featuring drummer Barry Altschul and bassist Steve Swallow), is one of Canadian-born pianist Paul Bley's most adventurous albums of the period. Bley helped spearhead the 1960s free jazz movement, standing shoulder to shoulder with men like Ornette Coleman and Don Cherry. Seven of the 10 tracks are written by Carla Bley (one each by Paul Bley, Annette Peacock and Ornette Coleman). This 1965 record should be in every collection. It is comparable in its democratic intensity and high melodic content to Chick Corea's "Song Of Singing" ". (from The Penguin Guide To Jazz). Also available on CD (ESP 1021).
