An astonishing ability to improvise a wordless vocal that soars, by turns a raw scream to a soft moan, helped Clare create one of the most memorable singing parts in all rock music. Great Gig In The Sky on Pink Floyds Dark Side Of The Moon is Clare's tour de force. Clare's vocals were first heard on late 60's solo singles released by Fontana, the raw 17 year old voice already reaching the parts no one else could, in a manner no one else would try. The single the Music Attracts Me begins like any other 60's Brit Girl number until Clare lets go her wail at the end of each hook line. A career followed in session singing, a much in demand backing vocalist bolstering hundreds of records, adverts, film and TV themes. Alan Parsons , in the early 70's a budding engineer /producer , recognised the talent early on from such sessions and it was he who introduced Clare to Pink Floyd. Her CV, apart from Pink Floyd also includes sessions with Elton John on covers albums, with Kay Garner on regular sessions for Jonathan King's UK Records, also backing Clifford T Ward, Serge Gainsbourg, Olivia Newton John, Sandy Denny, Kevin Ayers, Strawbs Jimmy Webb and many more. The Ad list goes on forever but a few you may recall depending on your vintage are Martini (73) , Jacobs Club (73) Typhoo (73) Brooke Bond (74) Vauxhall Chevette (74) Birds Dream Topping (75) Frys Choc Cream (75) Wranglers (76) Pepsi (77) Baby Cham (77) Jelly Tots (78) British Airways (79). This album is a collection of highlights from her career when Clare stepped out front and sang the lead. Highlights that include her early singles, the theme from the film 'OCE' - another improvised performance which is in a similar vein to Great Gig In The Sky. The advert for British Caledonian when again Clare soars into the stratosphere. To the softer side with the Theme from the BBC TV series 'Butterflies' , a hugely popular theme tune written by Dolly Parton which also received massive amounts of radio play at the time. As well as singles recorded for John Carter , Alan Hawkshaw, at times backed by groups such as Hudson Ford, and Man, plus songs written by Clare including Love For Living much admired and produced by Robin Gibb. Heaven In The Sky is an album which will greatly interest those who have loved Great Gig In The Sky all these years, and the mainstream audience who have heard that voice so many times on TV from ads and themes, and backing so many other artists. - The voice from Pink Floyds seminal Great Gig In The Sky (Dark Side Of The Moon) - Includes rare tracks including 60's singles and adverts. - First time on CD for BBC TV theme from 'Butterflies' - Produced in cooperation with Clare Torry - Clare Torry will promote on Radio and in the Press. - Great appeal to mainstream listeners as well as specialist music fans.
