With the break-up of Time of Commotion 40 years ago an era came to its end.

"ToC" was one of the few German bands to be taken seriously and with future opportunities. This was not only established by editors of respective specialist journals when they wrote: "The music of Time of Commotion does not follow popular examples. The band managed their style without exaggerated bombast or classic adaptions devoid of meaning, something that was characteristic for German rock music for many years." Quote from Deutsches Rocklexikon 1976: "With Time Of Commotion, a new keyboards formation is introduced that must already be counted among the upcoming German groups. After long and hard years of experimenting with various guitarists, the group, which according to Winfried Trenker of WDR had long been an insider tip on the German scene, has found its definitive sound".

The present CD / LP gives a well-assorted insight into the band’s repertoire. The then available live recording technology was not at its best, and so a good ear and a little imagination is required when today‘s listeners picture themselves back in the 1970’s. The band’s music is marked by the discreet use of keyboards like organ, synthesizer, electric piano and mellotron, and did not follow popular international role models .

From today’s view it becomes clear that the basis of their music was an idiosyncratic development resulting from different influences by a lot of gifted musicians during the band’s long history. In their initial phase it was just the classic guitar driven formation supplemented by an organ, but in the course of time keyboards took the key part of the sound.

TOC moved musically in the top German Krautrock league and have toured with Karthago, Eloy, Guru Guru, Hölderlin etc. ...

This CD / LP is reminiscent of the chequered history of a German group of musicians, enjoying a great reputation of their fan base, as well as the assistance and encouragement of many friends and helping hands right from the beginning. Without this, the big adventure called "ToC" would never have happened.

Looking back, what really counts was the fun the adventure brought to the boys and the joy of the achieved results.
