- London Calling proudly presents Paul Jones, live at the BBC 1966-1968. Professionally re-mastered original broadcasts with background liners and timeline photographs.
When Paul Jones followed Mike Vickers’ path and left one of Britain’s leading R&B groups, Manfred Mann, his future looked bright. As his counterparts nervously sought success with Fontana as a pop vehicle with Klaus Voormann and Mike D’Abo, Jones could afford to rest on his laurels as the charismatic, good-looking frontman. But Jones wasn’t just a face, he had written a fair chunk of material with Mann and immediately hit a UK #4 with High Time while embarking on a film career with Privilege and The Committee, two films that today, enjoy cult status. A move to EMI saw his own songs taking a progressive turn, peaking with the 1969 explorative album Come Into My Music Box. Various radio sessions chart his journey from Portsmouth grammar boy to Paul Jones, pop star.
