LPCDreissues: Looking forward to the past

Fraction, a Los Angeles-based band from the early 1970s, was renowned for its intense, unfiltered sound, blending heavy psychedelic rock with proto-punk influences. Their only album, Moon Blood, released in 1971, has since gained cult status and is often regarded as a "holy grail" of underground heavy psych music.

Recorded live in under three hours, Moon Blood captures the raw energy of the band, with all members performing simultaneously. This unpolished, spontaneous approach adds to the album’s mystique. Initially pressed in a highly limited run of about 200 copies, its scarcity has made it a prized collector’s item.

Sonically, the album is defined by heavy fuzz-laden guitar riffs, eerie, Morrison-esque vocals, and a dark, brooding atmosphere. Its lyrics delve into themes of spirituality and existentialism, reflecting the band's Christian background, yet delivered with an intensity rarely found in religious rock of the era.
