A curio from the always-curious archives of Frank Zappa's Straight label, 'Penrod' was a 1969 release from Tim Dawe (a.k.a. Jerry Penrod.hence the album title), a psychedelic folk-rocker who was briefly an early member of Iron Butterfly. The best-known song here is 'Junkie John', which was starting to get big-time airplay until the FCC cracked down on airplay for drug-themed songs, which was a clash between the "straight" and "bizarre" worlds that executive producer Zappa no doubt relished-other songs include 'Scarlet Woman; Nite Train Home; Nothing at All; Little Boy Blue; Sometimes Alone; No Exit (Cafe & Gallery); Im Comin; Some Other Time', and 'Didnt We Love'. Ex-Association member Jerry Yester produced, and provides quotes for Richie Unterbergers notes."
