First time ever as a 2 on 1 CD for these two albums originally released in 1969 on the Stateside-Dunhill Record label. The band took their name from an Australian expression describing low nocturnal temperatures in the outback (the colder the night, the more dogs needed to keep warm while sleeping).

From 1969-1974, thanks to the slick, sometimes soulful vocal harmonies of singers Danny Hutton, Chuck Negron, and Cory Wells and an excellent ear for quality material, Three Dog Night was undoubtedly the most popular band in America: twenty-one consecutive Top 40 hits, eighteen straight Top 20s, eleven Top 10s, seven number 1s, seven million-selling singles and twelve straight gold LPs. By late '75, they had sold nearly 50 million records.

Harry Nielson's 'One' opens the first LP here and reached number 5 in the US singles chart (later versions of this album were called 'One' to ride on the popularity of the song). This album introduced Traffic's 'Heaven Is in Your Mind' to the pop-record-buying public. Also covered are Johnny "Guitar" Watson's 'Find Someone to Love', Tim Hardin's 'Don't Make Promises', and 'The Loner' from Neil Young's first solo album.

Suitable For Framing followed Three Dog Night's debut disc by only a few months, sharing the charts with its predecessor for a while. This second release contains two Top Ten chart hits: 'Easy To Be Hard' (US #4), from the rock musical Hair, and 'Eli's Coming' (US #10), written by quirky songwriter Laura Nyro (who also wrote 'And When I Die', a hit for Blood, Sweat & Tears the same year). The track 'Celebrate'was a US #15 hit.It also introduced the songwriting team of Elton John and Bernie Taupin to American audiences with a version of 'Lady Samantha'from Elton's British-only first album release. This was also a hit single for Three Dog Night.
