LPCDreissues: Looking forward to the past

Originally released in 1970, UFO 1 introduced the first line-up of the British group: Phil Mogg on vocals, Mick Bolton on guitar, Pete Way on bass and Andy Parker on drums. Long before UFO developed its celebrated mid-1970s hard-rock sound, the band combined heavy blues, garage rock and raw psychedelic experimentation.

Mick Bolton’s distorted, effects-driven guitar dominates the space-rock atmosphere of “Unidentified Flying Object,” while “Boogie” and the energetic interpretation of Eddie Cochran’s “C’mon Everybody” reveal the group’s blues and rock-and-roll foundations. The slower “Melinda” provides a more reflective contrast before the second side returns to concise psychedelic rock and the extended Bo Diddley cover “Who Do You Love.”

This Repertoire Records edition was remastered by Jon Astley and half-speed mastered at Abbey Road Studios. Pressed by Pallas on 180-gram vinyl, it is presented in a gloss-finished single sleeve with carefully reproduced artwork and a period-style inner bag.
