Released in 1971, Eulenspygel 2 was the first album recorded under the Eulenspygel name by musicians who had previously worked together as Royal Servants. Their decision to replace English lyrics with German texts gave the group a distinctive identity within the emerging progressive and Krautrock movement.
The album combines forceful guitar and organ passages with violin, flute, harmonica and shifting rhythmic structures. Its six compositions range from compact, sharply arranged songs to the extended “Son My” and “Das Lied vom Ende,” where heavy rock, jazz-influenced interplay and psychedelic experimentation develop alongside socially conscious German vocals.
