By the end of the 1980s Pat Metheny was at his commercial peak, delighting audiences by incorporating Brazilian rhythms into his melodic and atmospheric jazz-fusion hybrid. The unforgettable performance captured here was broadcast on a special temporary jazz radio station via channel 217, frequency 91.3 MHz, courtesy of the CRTC at the Montreal Jazz Festival in July 1989, and includes a remarkable cross-section of his material to date (including Every Summer Night, dedicated to the festival itself). It’s presented here together with background notes and images.
