An 11-piece jazz/brass-rock outfit from Saint-Jean, Québec, active circa 1969–71. Built around a six-man horn line and the gritty lead vocals of Billy (Bill) Ledster, the band was steered by bassist Richard Terry and organist/arranger John Ranger, with producer Alan Lorber shaping their material. Think big-band punch over a rock backbeat—akin to Lighthouse, Blood, Sweat & Tears, and early Chicago.
Issued by Janus Records in 1970, this LP distills their brassy jazz-rock into tight, radio-lean tracks—about ten songs in roughly 33 minutes. Standouts include “Our Love’s a Chain,” “Upon the Earth,” “Distant,” “I Don’t Want to Cry,” and “Life Tasters, Time Wasters.” The production (Alan Lorber, with Bob Scerbo) spotlights crisp horn voicings, driving grooves, and Ledster’s soulful delivery; “Our Love’s a Chain” backed with “Upon the Earth” served as the key single and picked up Canadian airplay. Later CD reissues have kept the album in circulation.
