LPCDreissues: Looking forward to the past

Formed in Uruguay following the break-up of the influential group El Kinto, Limonada brought together Walter Cambón, Luis Sosa, Dardo Martínez and Ricardo Lanza. Their only album was recorded and released by Sondor in 1970, combining melodic beat music, psychedelic pop and distinctly South American rhythmic elements.

The record is concise but unusually inventive. Accessible vocal melodies and warm harmonies are interrupted by sudden transitions, reversed-tape effects and unexpected instrumental passages. “Ojos Que Miran Lejos,” “Pasteles Verdes” and “Veo Luz en la Ventana” display the group’s colourful psychedelic-pop side, while “Siempre Caminar,” “Pies Descalzos” and “Viejo Tambor” place greater emphasis on rhythm and acoustic texture.

This limited Lion Productions reissue was mastered and pressed through AcousTech Mastering and RTI in California. The vinyl is supplied in a poly-lined inner sleeve and an ultra-heavy 1960s-style jacket, accompanied by an illustrated insert covering the band, the Uruguayan music scene and the history of the Sondor label. The original Sondor record labels are also reproduced.
