sound. Climax Blues Band faced heavy competition when they appeared on the scene in late 1968
from the likes of Fleetwood Mac and Chicken Shack, not to mention Savoy Brown and John
Mayall. Yet it wasn't long before the lads from Stafford, England established themselves as
a seriously good band.
With Colin Cooper (sax, vocals) and Peter Haycock (guitar) providing a solid front line, they
proved a match for their blues breaking rivals. Climax cut their eponymously titled debut
album in 1969, followed in the same year by 'Plays On'. Here they play on a selection of
nine tracks, including the 'live' favourite 'Flight' and the somewhat tongue-in-cheekily titled
'Hey Baby Everything's Gonna Be Alright! Yeh Yeh Yeh'.
Chris Thomas - later to work with Roxy Music and the Sex Pistols - produced 'Plays On',
which still packs more punch than the glam and punk rock that followed at the time from
other groups! TRACKLISTING:
