Best known for the hit single 'Gaye' (after his daugher), Kidderminster-based singer songwriter Ward released this debut album from 1969, originally released on John Peel's label Dandelion, containing early singles 'Carrie' and 'Coathanger'. Unavailable on CD for many years this issue reminds us what a great artist Cliff was (in the same vein as Al Stewart, Duncan Browne or maybe even Pete Atkin) and how his death from multiple sclerosis in 2001 robbed the world of a unique talent. Not very interesting trivia: Ward, alongside Robert Plant, David Hamilton, Roy Wood and Jasper Carrott, once played a testimonial football match for Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Dave Wagstaff (no relation to the prog drummer).
