UT captures New Trolls at one of the most adventurous points in their career. Recorded after Concerto Grosso per i New Trolls and the ambitious double album Searching for a Land, it brings together the contrasting musical personalities that had developed within the celebrated Genoese group.

The album moves freely between symphonic progressive rock, forceful hard-rock passages, jazz-influenced instrumentals and more reflective melodic writing. Keyboards, Hammond organ and piano play a major role, while Nico Di Palo’s guitar and dramatic vocals provide some of the record’s most powerful moments.

The opening instrumental pairing of “Studio” and “XXIIª Strada” leads into the shifting arrangements of “I Cavalieri del Lago dell’Ontario.” The extended “Nato Adesso” and the heavy, guitar-driven “C’è Troppa Guerra” display the group’s progressive and harder-edged sides, while “Paolo e Francesca” draws inspiration from the tragic lovers portrayed in Dante’s Inferno.

UT was also the final album made by this phase of the classic New Trolls line-up before internal divisions led its members towards Ibis and New Trolls Atomic System. Its variety, intensity and accomplished musicianship have made it an enduring classic of early-1970s Italian progressive rock.
