Baker Gurvitz Army were an English hard-rock band active from 1974 to 1976, centered on ex-Cream drummer Ginger Baker alongside brothers Adrian Gurvitz (guitar/vocals) and Paul Gurvitz (bass/vocals). Their music blends classic ’70s heavy rock with a distinctive twist, driven by Baker’s jazz- and Afrobeat-influenced rhythms. Their self-titled debut, released in 1974, was recorded at London’s Ramport Studios and produced by Baker and the Gurvitz brothers. The album is a tight, riff-powered hard-rock set that also stretches out into extended, jam-like sections—especially on the standout epic “Mad Jack.”
