In October of 2023, ANAZITISI Records is commemorating its 20th anniversary as a record label. To mark this special occasion, we are delighted to announce the official release of an album by ASHHOLLOW that has never been issued before.
ASHHOLLOW, the band, originally formed in 1973 in Oklahoma, USA. After undergoing some changes in their lineup, they eventually solidified their final formation in 1975, featuring Bill Kirtley on vocals and guitar, Mike Stewart on vocals and guitar, Mike Hanna on vocals and bass, and Gary Bruce on drums. They were actively performing in local clubs and at concerts, showcasing their original compositions, most of which are included in this release. In addition to their own material, they also added their unique touch to covers of songs by bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, CSN&Y, Kansas, and more.
The music of ASHHOLLOW is a captivating blend of hard rock with profound psychedelic underground influences and progressive rock with jazzy nuances. Listening to their sound may bring to mind bands like Wishbone Ash, Primevil, Majic Ship, Hard Meat, and even the mellower and less polished tones of Ashbury.
This album was meticulously crafted from an original reel-to-reel tape recorded on January 30, 1976. The recording was done entirely live in the studio, without any overdubs. While the tape contains a total of 11 songs, we had to select 9 of them due to the limitations of the vinyl format. Shortly after these recordings, ASHHOLLOW regrettably ceased their musical journey.
