LPCDreissues: Looking forward to the past

Emtidi’s self-titled debut is a rare German folk-psych album from 1970, recorded before the duo moved into the more cosmic progressive sound of Saat. The group centred on Canadian singer and multi-instrumentalist Dolly Holmes and German musician Maik Hirschfeldt, whose voices and acoustic guitars give the record its intimate, wandering character.

The first half of the album is closer to acid folk, with English-language songs such as Lookin' For People, Shadow On Your Face and Space Age built around acoustic textures and male/female harmonies. The second half becomes more psychedelic and open-ended, especially on Let The Joint Go 'Round, Birds On A Graveyard and the closing Flutepiece. This Garden Of Delights CD edition was taken from the master tape and comes with a 32-page booklet.
