A familiar presence in the Greenwich Village folk community, Vince Martin moved through the same creative circle as Fred Neil, Dino Valenti, Len Chandler and Richie Havens. He had already attracted attention through his work with The Tarriers and his recordings with Fred Neil before making his first solo album, If the Jasmine Don't Get You... The Bay Breeze Will, for Capitol in 1969.
Produced by Nick Venet and recorded in Nashville with leading session musicians, the album expands Martin’s folk roots into a spacious blend of folk rock, country, blues and gently psychedelic songwriting. Charlie McCoy, Kenneth Buttrey, Norbert Putnam, Fred Carter Jr. and steel guitarist Lloyd Green provide sympathetic accompaniment, allowing Martin’s expressive voice and reflective songs to remain at the centre of the recording.
The extended “Snow Shadows” immediately establishes the album’s dreamy, unhurried atmosphere, while “I Can’t Escape From You” and “Summerwind” combine melodic warmth with a quiet sense of longing. “Danville Girl” draws on traditional American song, and the expansive “Yonder Comes the Sun” leads into the evocative title track. With only six songs, the record gives each arrangement room to develop naturally, creating an intimate and atmospheric work that has gradually earned recognition among collectors of late-1960s folk rock.
