Detroit’s own poet Dudley Randall wrote his Ballad Of Birmingham in1963, after the Klan’s horrific bombing of the 16th Street BaptistChurch in Birmingham, Alabama. Trained organist and guitar player /folksinger Jerry Moore asked Randall for permission to put the poemto music, and in 1967, under Randy Burns’ wing, he went from beingan anonymous Greenwich Village artist and musician to recording thisawesome tribute to a terrifying piece of African American and humanhistory. He eventually went on to become a street preacher in South Central Los Angeles.
